History

The first Parsons program was established in 1921 by Frank Alvah Parsons, then director of the New York School for Applied and Fine Art, and William M. Odom. This program was known as the Paris Ateliers and existed until the beginning of World War II. In the 1970s, Parsons The New School for Design set up a new program, which became known as Parsons Paris. Parsons established the school to provide American education to undergraduates in fine arts and design wishing to pursue their education in Europe.

Undergraduate majors and degrees

The college offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) or Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) degree. Art and Design majors are offered in Communication Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Fine Arts and Photography. In the business area majors are offered in Design and Management. The tuition cost is €24,000 per year.

Under an arrangement with Parsons The New School for Design, since September 2008, students matriculating in the Parsons Paris program have been eligible to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the New School. However, according to the New School Free Press, the contract between Parsons The New School for Design and Parsons Paris expired in 2008 and the former decided not to renew it. At the expiration of the agreement, Parsons notified AFAD that it could not continue to use the Parsons name any longer. AFAD, however, challenged that decision and brought the legal proceeding before the International Chamber of Commerce.[1]
